Some Time on the Rails in Kansas

April 4-5, 2003

Sit still, be patient and good things will come to you. This area is known as "The Bottoms" and is a cornucopia of action. This KCS freight showed up and ambled by. The second unit is painted in similar colors with GWWR (Gateway Western) reporting marks. The trackwork down here is a modelers dream!
You gotta love it here. A short drive puts me alongside KCS Knoche Yard in North Kansas City. And on a public road no less. Lots of activity, a yard crew moving things around and two non dynamic GP38s waiting for a crew.
Here's a nice shot of two generations of switch engines on the left. On the right is the KCS fuel depot. Check out the neat KCS emblem on the tank. There was a ton of power here. If the zoom on the digital was bigger, I'd have taken more pictures. That unit with the red nose looked to be a former SP unit on closer inspection.
Just a few more pictures
