Some Time on the Rails in Kansas

| K.C. is full of trains. In my humble opinion, it beats Chicago hands down for railfanning. Rails and yards are accessible from public locations, most areas are safe in daylight hours. Lastly, it is just flat out busy! This is a beautiful shot from the east end of Kansas Ave. These are both UP tracks. The bottom is ex-SP. I'm not sure of the tops heritage. These are both UP trains I believe. The over/under, the JB Hunt trailer all contribute to a good city shot. | ||||||||||||
| I drive 300 yards down the street and find another UP freight waiting for signals. among the usual C44-9W's on the freight were a classic Dash 2 and a SOO SD60 in REAL Soo Line paint. Again, easy public access here. | ||||||||||||
| As I drove away from the one above, I spied another UP coal train on the viaduct. So I drove back 300 yards and lined up for this unusual shot. There are so many trains, you don't feel bad about shooting some questionable angles. Some of the shots turn out to be interesting like this one did. | ||||||||||||
