We need a traffic light here...... |

I barely had time to grab a couple bites when another laker showed up downbound. I felt good about being able to catch a single laker but now two within five minutes and get photos of them passing, well that's almost too much to ask. Sure enough, here came the Montrealais, a classic straight decker. Note how tight the channel is here. Steve pointed out the proximity of the buoys. That's a close fit with two loaded ships! |

The Montrealais was launched in 1962. It is one of the few remaining "straight-deckers" (Not equipped with a self-unloader) still plying the lakes. It has typical dimensions at 730 feet in length and 75 feet in beam. |

The Montrealais heads down river. Not far ahead is the James A. Hannah pushing a barge. It must have been a rough ride judging from the spray the barge was pushing up. |

| If you're looking for a great place to watch the boats go by and something decent to eat, stop in at Jreck on Riverside Drive in Clayton. Shameless plug here but so what! |
