Chasing Lakeboats - Toledo, OH and Detroit, MI

1/25-26/03

I spent the night north of Toledo along I-75. I figured I could follow the progress of the Jackman and the Mackinaw on the web and decide where to head in the morning. During the day Saturday, the Mackinaw was unable to open a path into the port at Conneaut, OH so the pair returned to Detroit. They arrived in the wee hours of the morning Sunday 1/26. It snowed during the night so the roads were a bit greasy. I had time to kill before I could leave because the credit card machine at the hotel was messed up and I couldn't check out. So, to be productive, I went and caught a train. Imagine that.
I finally got into Detroit around 11 am. I had no idea where I was heading or what I was looking for. As I drove across the I-75 viaduct over the River Rouge, I saw a laker unloading. It had to be the Jackman, no one else would be around! I stopped on the shoulder and took these pictures. Fortunately it wasn't very busy as there wasn't much room.
The view from I-75 Hey! How'd that train get in there?
I raced up ahead to the next exit, figuring I could get closer. I found out this is easier said than done! But it wasn't a total loss.
Haven't I seen this train before?
