Up in the Air, Junior Birdmen....

| I signed up for an hour flight. In retrospect, that was about as much as I could handle for the day. So, they strapped me in and off we went. I got a preflight briefing that included emergency procedures and a general "have fun" instruction. Yes, I was wearing a parchute! And in real airplanes, the term is: "Bail Out, Bail Out, Bail Out!". No ejection seats in this bird, you've got to open the cockpit and climb out. For today, I got the Navy SNJ version, identical to the USAAF AT-6. On the taxi out, Jon (my pilot/instructor) ran me through the basics of the plane and where the various functions were located. It's a very basic aircraft with simple controls. He did a run up, made his radio call (uncontrolled field) and off we went. | |||||||||
