Can't anything be small anymore?
4 horsepower
1,050 lbs.
Is it any wonder that engine technology improved so rapidly?  How did they ever push a lawnmower with that on it?
And why can't todays engines be this cool? The St. Mary's is a nice engine, I think it sounds great with a short pipe but I stuck the copper exhaust pipe on it to quiet it down at the show.  It is a little tough to start but can be done alone.  I had to figure out how to hold the intake valve in and turn the crank at same time. Like most compression ignition types, it's very cold blooded and is a real stinkweed to keep going once it starts. But once it decides it's ready, it rolls right along. The governing method uses springs and weights on the flywheel to maintain speed and the fuel is actuated by a drag lever system.
But it's a Hvid through and through!
The St. Mary's belches a load of smoke
Here's my line-up at Rough & Tumble. That's Brian with the hat. Jared and his Dad are on the right. The St. Mary's is barking out a load of smoke in the lower left.
More coming when I have pictures (no link yet)
