Funny how a simple piece of equipment toiling unattended in a remote field can exemplify so many things that make this country great. A single oil well owned by Joe Lunchbucket. Where else in the world can an average guy pump his own oil? He drills a hole where he damn well pleases on land he owns. He buys a walking beam pump from a supplier who makes money by building a durable product. It's in a remote spot and must operate without attention for days at a time so he buys an ingeniously simple single cylinder gas engine to drive it. It's a water-cooled Fairbanks-Morse, type unknown. At ~10 hp it's enough to keep this well running day and night, doing what Americans do best: Making Money.
