The brakes are hi-tech carbon fibre discs. They are very light weight and capable of dissipating the tremendous amount of heat generated when slowing these things down from 200 mph. In this shot you can easily see the glow of the brakes on both wheels. As they start to have trouble the discs will shed big clouds of carbon dust during braking.
I don't think there's a nickname for this kid but there ought to be. Kimi Räikkönen is 23 and can drive the wheels off these things. Typical of his Finnish heritage, he is a real dynamo at post race interviews. I think his race face is permanently glued on. It won't be long though before he starts to dominate. He just looks like a dynasty waiting to happen.
